Pet: Tobey

posted by Robin on 10/30/2010 at 5:05 p.m. Pacific

Tobey was extra affectionate today - almost as if she is trying to make me feel guilty about it being my last visit! Or maybe she just wanted to say a fond farewell. She did lots of purring and head-butting - it's nearly impossible to believe she is the same cat who hid from me for months when I first met her. It's a gray, drizzly day, but even without sunshine coming through the windows, we had a good time hanging out in the living room, and she promised to send me an email now and then to tell me how she is doing. Safe travels home, and thank you for letting me be Tobey's caretaker for the last few years!

Pet: Tobey

Our recent pattern is holding: Tobey comes down as soon as I arrive to say hello and get a few treats, then follows me upstairs to supervise as I fill her food bowls and scoop the litter box. Then we go back downstairs and sit in the living room soaking up sunshine (with an occasional treat thrown in!) Very peaceful and compatible. She's eating well and doing just fine!

Pet: Tobey

So sorry I didn't post this last night - technical issues on my end - but Tobey and I did have a good visit yesterday and she is doing fine. I thought I might not see her because it was so stormy when I arrived that it was really dark in your house, so I thought Tobey might assume it was nighttime instead of mid-afternoon! But she came down and was full of purrs and head bumps against my hand. And then, like last week, she just wanted to hang out with me, doing chores or just sitting on the couch. See her again in a few days!

Tobey in the afternoon sun

Pet: Tobey

posted by Robin on 10/18/2010 at 6:45 p.m. Pacific

Tobey is continuing in her friendly mode! It's been so shady and cool in the back yard that I haven't even tried to get her to go out, but she really likes being in the living room with the afternoon sun pouring in. She's eating well, and seems pretty happy in general! And of course giving her a few kitty treats here and there doesn't hurt. Hope you had a good trip, and safe travels home!

Pet: Tobey

When I pulled into the driveway today, Tobey's tuxedo cat friend was curled up sunning himself - ! - but he took off before I could say hello to him. I don't know if Tobey could tell that he was there, but she came right down to see me and spent all of my visit close by - first supervising chores, and then sitting with me on the couch, which was drenched in sunshine. I opened the blinds so she could watch out the front window while soaking up sun, and she looked pretty happy.

Kiku in the sun

None of the three kitties wanted to play today - mostly they wanted some petting, so I tried to spend individual time with all three of them. Kiku got the most attention, because he is so good at sitting in the middle of the living room looking at me with his big sad eyes until I go stretch out on the floor so he can rub against my head and climb all over me. Stella and I got some quiet time while her brothers were sunning, and Jackson got a chance to play in the sink and then stretch out in a sunbeam. In fact, he was so comfortable when I left that I couldn't stand to close the blinds all the way, so one of them is partially opened so he could continue warming himself. Seriously, he and Kiku looked like kitty loaves there for a while. Stella prefers to stay in the shade, in keeping with her lovely gray coat!

Pets: Jackson, Kiku, and Stella

Stella seems to be exceptionally fascinated with the heater grates in the walls - I've noticed her staring into them intently several times. I'm not sure that I want to know what she thinks may be in there! The kitties were more in a mood to cuddle than to play today, so we all hung out in the living room and they rubbed against me and sniffed my pant legs (I had given my dog a bath earlier in the day so I'm sure there were some interesting scents for them!) There was lots of sun so I opened the blinds in the dining room to let the sunbeams in - all in all, a lovely visit!

Pets: Jackson, Kiku, and Stella

posted by Robin on 10/15/2010 at 4:00 p.m. Pacific

Just like last week, we had to all four sit down on the couch to say hello properly, Kiku on my lap and Jackson and Stella on either side. Then chores, which included bringing in the UPS package (which was delivered to the back porch) - needless to say, the kitties were extremely interested in a large cardboard box coming into their house, so it required lots of careful sniffing. Then I got out my leash and all three of them flew around the living room chasing it - this time I didn't even have to attach a mousie, they were fine just chasing the loop at the end! Finally everyone was tired out and the boys went off to rest, while Stella stayed with me and rubbed her head into my hand over and over. So sweet, especially when I remember how shy she was at first. They're doing great!

Jackson's face

All three kitties were eager to show me the new couch, and they took turns sitting in my lap (or in Stella's case, just sitting beside me) so we could give it a test run. Then we all trooped downstairs and Kiku positioned himself beside the food bowl with the saddest look, because it was empty and he was clearly about to faint from hunger! Everyone had a snack and Jackson played in the sink, then we went upstairs and found some mousies, which I attached to the end of a dog leash I carry that is sized for miniature breeds, so it's perfect for a cat toy. We got everyone chasing and rolling around the front room! Jackson purrs like an outboard motor when he is playing, very cute. They are all just fine and it was a blast to see them. Back for more fun next weekend!

Pets: Willow and Archie

posted by Angie on 10/07/2010 at 11:05 p.m. Pacific

Willow wasn't waiting for me tonight when I came by, so as soon as I finished up the chores I went to find her--and there she was, lounging regally on the bed. She was in a sleepy, loving mood, and she purred up a storm when I petted her. I love it when she's like this! We had some topnotch girl time. Meanwhile, Archie was in his usual spot in the closet. When I checked up on him, he played it pretty cool, but I didn't bother him except to tell him he was looking particularly handsome. You sure have some pretty great cats.

Pets: Willow and Archie

posted by Angie on 10/06/2010 at 8:05 p.m. Pacific

I had to beg Willow a thousand apologies today for referring to her as a "calico" yesterday. She let me know how tortoiseshells are superior in so many ways. Eventually--I think right about the time I got out the wet food--she forgave me. We then followed what is now our routine of going upstairs and playing and petting on the carpet with Archie in the nearby closet. I'd almost think Archie hadn't moved at all, except that the food dishes and litterboxes have definitely been busy enough for two kitties!

Pets: Willow and Archie

posted by Angie on 10/05/2010 at 9:00 p.m. Pacific

It was chilly last night, so I closed a few of the windows so the kitties wouldn't get cold. Willow was very interested and followed me around the ground floor. Once we'd tidied up the litter boxes, made dinner, and freshened up the water, Willow trotted upstairs and let me pet her while I told her a story about a beautiful calico cat named Princess Willow. I threw in a few references to the people's favorite, King Archie, who was napping in the closet in his favorite spot a few feet away.

Pets: Willow and Archie

I never realized how many good bird watching places your house has until I followed Willow around today. We started at the TV room window, where she switched her tail and watched a couple of birds jumping around in the grass. Then we moved to the front window to check out the fountain. Willow got to enjoy some back scratching while she watched the birds. Meanwhile, Archie was snuggled in the upstairs closet, where he seems to have staked out a comfy napping spot!
