Pets: Kiku, Jackson, and Stella

posted by Angie on 10/18/2009 at 9:05 p.m. Pacific

The cats are doing well. Kiku is a regular love machine and insisted on being petted whenever my hands were free. Stella is a fiend for the feather toy. This time she dragged it, stick and all, to the bed. (If she ever gets a real bird, guess where you'll find it!) I put the feather toy away before I left. Jackson was mostly interested in anything that involved the faucet, although he batted at the feather toy a few times, too. I think his idea of heaven is a giant sink with a leaky faucet--who cares about the clouds and angels with harps.

Pets: Kiku, Jackson, and Stella

Jackson, Kiku, and Stella showed their personalities today: Jackson stared at the faucet while I changed their water and begged for a few drops to play with; Kiku wanted to sit in my lap; and Stella insisted on playing "kill the feather toy". The boys batted the feather a little bit, too, but they were happy watching Stella leap into the air and snatch the feather in her mouth (got to get her into the kitty Olympics!). Everyone looks happy and healthy.

Lilu on catnip

I did figure out at one point today that I could sit on the couch with Kiku while simultaneously making the feather toy fly around for Stella - now if you could just put a sink in your living room for Jackson, maybe I could amuse all three kitties at once! Jackson and Kiku seem to take turns hopping up on the ledge of the dining room window to look out - quite a nice welcome for anyone on the front porch. Kiku has also perfected the fast leap into my lap as I'm getting my things pulled together to leave, thus getting an extra few minutes of attention. I put out some fresh catnip toys today which the boys really liked (see photo of Kiku) and Stella, well, all Stella wants to do is catch that feather toy.

Pets: Kiku, Jackson, and Stella

Each of the kitties is very clear about what they want: Kiku wants to curl up on the couch and be petted; Jackson wants to drink and/or stare at water from the basement tap; and Stella wants to play. We had a small crisis today when I couldn't find the feather toys - ! Stella was giving me very meaningful glances, so I finally did some searching and found them in the guest bedroom. (I hope they weren't being sequestered due to bad feline behavior!) Anyway, both Stella and Jackson had a wild time chasing, and then I put the toys away again, thinking it will make them extra special to play with tomorrow. All is well!

Gracie smiling

This morning Belle wasn't feeling like a long walk so after a couple of blocks we took her back to the house, and Gracie and I went on a nice long BRISK walk! Which she loved, of course, and I think it was really good for her. Belle staringBy this afternoon Belle was ready for a walk too, just at a slower pace. They are doing great, such sweet girls! Missy is fine too, healthy appetite, and she purrs away when she is chowing down. They will all be happy to see you tomorrow!

Kiku ears

When I arrived, all three kitties headed for the couch, so I sat down with them for a bit - Kiku in my lap, Jackson and Stella perched on the back of the couch. All three purring loudly - I thought I was at a road race! After about five minutes they suddenly realized they were starving, so they led me down to the basement with many anxious looks over their shoulders to be sure I remembered where the food dish was. After lunch, Kiku went back to the couch to snooze, Jackson wanted to play in the basement sink, and Stella chased the feather toy for a little while. But ultimately everyone ended up where they started - back on the couch for their afternoon naps!

The girls continue to do fine. We've had great fall weather, perfect for walks! Even Gracie is relatively calm when we arrive, and after a stroll around the neighborhood both dogs are happy and relaxed. Missy likes food, treats, and some pets - that gets her purring!

It's so nice to see Stella and the boys again! Everyone (happily) seems the same: Kiku crawled right into my lap for some pets, Jackson was very curious about the faucet in the basement when I refilled the water dishes, and Stella took the most interest in the feather toy. All in all, though, once they each had a turn with me they wanted to lounge in the sunny windows.

Everyone did fine overnight. The girls are enjoying their walks! They are always happy to see us when we arrive but after walking they settle right down to relax until the next visit. We always check in on Missy and give her some pets along with her food and treats - she is such a pretty little thing. So far so good!

Pet: Blue

Today Blue and I headed over to Clinton for a change. Unfortunately, there appear to be fewer squirrels in that part of town, but we did get in some quality stalking of the few we could find. And, since we were spending less time standing around staring, we got more exercise! He had a big grin on his face so I think he liked it.

Pets: Aja and Gaucho

posted by Robin on 10/08/2009 at 8:05 p.m. Pacific

This morning the boys greeted me with a stretching contest, to see which one of them could cover the most territory from tail-tip to front-paw-tip! I'm not sure which one was the winner, I was laughing so hard at them. Tonight I sat with Aja for a bit while Gaucho finished his dinner - he purred and purred. They are both being very sweet and funny, and eating most of their canned food and plenty of kibble. They both have a lot to talk about! I know they'll be so happy to see you tomorrow.

Since the evening visit to the girls will be so late, we will post our daily reports after the afternoon visit. Both Angie and I went to see them this afternoon, and we all had a great walk around the neighborhood. The girls were happy and tired at the end of it. Angie will go back to see them tonight, and I will be over for a visit first thing in the morning. So far everyone is doing fine!

Blue the squirrel hunter

A gorgeous day, perfect for squirrel stalking! We had a great walk, absolutely lovely weather. And squirrels everywhere! Blue had a particularly serious stare-down with one at the park (he didn't even notice I was taking his picture) - the squirrel sat on a branch a few feet above him, chittering away. I think Blue was in a squirrel trance. He seemed pretty happy when we got back to the house, so I think he was satisfied!

Aja in the tunnel

Aja is getting plenty of exercise to make up for missing his walkies - flying around the house at top speed! Gaucho tries to keep up but mostly just looks a little bemused. Since you said Aja was sad to see you leaving, I gave him some extra cuddles today (after he slowed down), and Gaucho is fine with letting me stroke his lovely soft coat. He also loves to chase that laser toy! He followed it in and out of the tunnel, which he thought was very exciting. When I was getting ready to leave tonight, Aja crawled into the tunnel and settled in like it was his little cave, and Gaucho sat down outside to keep him company. Being brothers. They're doing well, and I love spending time with them!

Pets: Aja and Gaucho

posted by Robin on 10/06/2009 at 8:00 p.m. Pacific

There were two squirrels making themselves at home in your front yard when I arrived this evening - they have no fear! - and a big fluffy white kitty in the window watching them! Both of the boys met me at the door - Gaucho a little tentative, Aja his usual flop-over-to-be-petted self. They were very interested in watching me serve up dinner until they heard a couple of cats outside yowling at each other, and investigating that took precedence. After eating some yummy tuna, Aja took over squirrel watching, and I blew bubbles for Gaucho. They seem very content and happy, and I'll check in with them again in the morning!

Pets: Clovis and Rigby

posted by Robin on 10/02/2009 at 6:05 p.m. Pacific

Today I arrived to find the entire food container tipped over onto the floor - ! - it had come open but luckily landed lid-down so only a few pieces of kibble fell out. Those girls are very industrious! So when you come home you will find the food container and the can of treats in the two top drawers of the black chest of drawers in the bathroom. Unless they have learned how to open drawers. They will be so happy to see you - safe journey home!

Rigby stretching

These two are so sweet and funny! Rigby wanted to play today, so she went flying around the room pouncing on anything that moved. Clovis, on the other hand, was ready to be brushed, which was nice because she is shedding a lot! I think she wanted to be all pretty, since her sister got all pretty yesterday. Here is a picture of Rigby stretching out after her vigorous hunting exercises - a well-deserved rest!
