Pets: Clovis and Rigby

posted by Robin on 09/30/2009 at 8:25 p.m. Pacific

Rigby was extra adorable and affectionate today - she really wanted to be petted and brushed! Whenever I set the brush down she walked over and stared at it until I started up again. Clovis was a bit more interested in eating and in stalking the feather toy, but she finally gave in and rolled over and purred too. They seem fine, though I told them you'll be home in just a few days, and I think they liked that!

Rigby and Clovis greeted me downstairs, but were soon upstairs waiting for dinner. Instead of brushing, today they seemed to want to play. Boy, does Rigby have some moves! Clovis seemed to like the string on the feather toy at least as much as the feathers.

Pet: Ivy

posted by Robin on 09/28/2009 at 9:00 p.m. Pacific

Ivy was extra affectionate today - I think she's getting ready for you guys to come home! But it wasn't all pets and purrs - she particularly enjoyed the way you have her cat carrier next to her house to add an extra room, when it came to planning attacks on the feather toy! She is a fierce hunter. It's been great to spend time with her again!

No unauthorized snacking for the girls today! They were very well-behaved. They showed me some fancy moves in pursuit of the feather toy, and both got some brushing. I was a little nervous because I kept smelling smoke, and finally checked with Dave who had been burning something in his yard so that's all it was.

Everyone is looking forward to seeing you tomorrow night! They are all fine, although I suspect Lenny is eating more of Ruby's food than she is. Lily is her usual happy self. Safe trip home!

Ivy rolls with the sunbeam

Today was such a lovely fall day that I opened the sliding glass door and sat with Ivy just inside the screen so she could soak up sun and fresh air. She loved it! There was a nice breeze moving the trees around so she liked watching that, and she showed me how much better she rolls when there is a sunbeam to roll in. Then we went back into battle against the mouse toys!

Rigby after grooming

Some naughty kitties had helped themselves to an unauthorized snack of cat treats today. I have a feeling Clovis was the brains of the operation and figured out how to rip open the treat bag, but Rigby was there egging her on. Both cats looked happy and healthy today, though, and still ate every pellet in their bowl. We played feather and had some more brushing, and today Clovis was the one begging for the brush. Here's a photo of Rigby, after some grooming. Doesn't she look pretty?

Lily accomplished a lot on her walks today. First, she scared a squirrel so bad that he dropped his nut (I could see Lily snicker at that one), then she let a kitty sitting in a window know who was boss (although the cat didn't even blink). Lenny sat in a sunbeam and was furminated this afternoon, and Ruby let me pet her while she gave me a piece of her mind. Or maybe she was reciting poetry, I'm not sure. Either way, they're all doing well and looking forward to seeing you when you come home.

Pet: Ivy

I moved Ivy's scratching post down into her room, and she went to work on it right away! She also had fun playing soccer with a little ball, and of course chasing the string and feather toys. Today I had a little extra time so I brought a book and curled up with her on the couch for a while after our regular visit was over, which she seemed to enjoy. She seems very relaxed and content!

Clovis eating

I can say with confidence that having their person gone hasn't hurt Clovis and Rigby's appetite (see photo). They enjoyed their dinner with gusto, then came around for brushing and pets. They were more in the mood for preening than playing this afternoon. This time Clovis demanded brushing and made Rigby wait her turn. The girls sure like to play beauty parlor.

I love it when Lily skids down the hall to say hello! Meanwhile, Ruby popped her head out of the basket on top of the TV, and Lenny played it cool on the living room floor. Lily and I covered lots of territory in the neighborhood, but I kept our evening walk to 20 minutes so that I could spend more time with the cats. Lenny purred, and Ruby told me her troubles. She likes a sympathetic ear.

Pet: Ivy

posted by Robin on 09/25/2009 at 8:35 p.m. Pacific

Ivy has settled into the pattern very easily - here is that lady again, oh boy, she will pet me and play with me! We spent more time playing in her little house today - I have never known a cat who wanted to play so much with something she CAN'T SEE! It's like she hides her eyes and bats blindly at whatever is out there, and she thinks that is the most fun thing ever. I made her a little perch by the window to the driveway (just a towel on the top of the workbench) so she can watch the world a little bit, and moved the basil plant outside in front of the window in the hope that it will attract some bees or other interesting insects for her observation.

Clovis and Rigby are loving the early days of fall. After letting me know that they'd die if they didn't get dinner instantly, they lounged in the window, letting the breeze ruffle their fur. One girl would eat a little dinner, while the other one ambled by for play time with the feather toy or some brushing before jumping up to the window. Then they'd switch places. They both look great.

I think the kitties really miss you! Lenny spent a lot of time today in my lap, and Ruby still mostly hangs out in the basket on top of the TV. Then at one point tonight when I went to check the water dish in the master bath, there she was curled up in the exact center of the bath mat (melt my heart!) I'm sure she feels close to you in there, with all of the lovely-smelling soaps and lotions that must remind her of you. So I sat with her for a while and we talked, and then she went out to eat dinner, so I think she felt better. Lily meanwhile is doing great - always super-excited to see me and go for her walk, and tons of curiosity about whatever is going on in the neighborhood. Angie will be taking care of them this weekend, so they'll get to see a different face!

Pet: Ivy

posted by Robin on 09/24/2009 at 8:00 p.m. Pacific

Today Ivy was in a playful mood, so she stalked and chased the feather toy across and over and around the couch upstairs. Then we went back to her den and played with a mouse on a string, dangled in the doors and windows of her little house - she LOVES that! Too funny. She is fine, sweet as ever and cute as can be.

Clovis rolling

Good first visit with the kitties! They looked a little disappointed that it wasn't you coming through the door but when they realized I was there to feed them, they got over any shyness and let me know (1) they were hungry (2) I was too slow in filling their food dish! After they ate, they came to investigate me and decided I was okay. Clovis showed me again how well she can roll over, and Rigby really likes the new brush. Whenever I stopped brushing her she would rub against my hand and the brush, so her sister didn't get a chance to try it this time! They seem to be enjoying their sunny, airy loft and doing well.

Everyone was very polite and friendly - no one gave me a "You again?" face, even though I know they were wishing I was you! It's cool today so Lily and I had good long walks to patrol the neighborhood. Lenny and Ruby are eating well, although Lenny is torn between getting food and getting petted! Ruby is hanging out a lot in the basket above the TV - just her little ears showing over the top! Very cute. All is well!

Ivy on the couch

Ivy seemed to remember me and got right in my lap and started purring! What a sweetheart. Then she followed me around while I did chores, and when I went out the back door to water plants and take out the garbage, she watched from the sliding glass door. It was very cute - she rubbed against the glass, rolled over, turned kitty somersaults! I tried to get a picture but there was too much glare from the window. Then we sat on the couch for a while and relaxed (see photo) before heading back to her den.

Pets: Storm and Max

posted by Angie on 09/20/2009 at 10:30 p.m. Pacific

I've loved taking care of Storm and Max today. Storm's regimen today was two long walks, several rounds of tug of war (including fearsome growling), two aerobic sessions with the tennis ball, and two belly rubs. She is such a sweet girl. I tried to get a photo of her, but she was too wiggly. Max said "time for night night" to me tonight, and I swear he said "gorp" a couple of times as well as making his signature drop of water noise. They will be happy to see you tomorrow!

It was a beautiful day for walks: crisp, clear morning; warm afternoon; crickets in the evening. Lily properly terrorized the squirrels and sniffed her way down blocks and blocks of sidewalks. Back at home, Ruby had a lot to tell me about her travails, which I suspect include gripes about Lenny trying to eat all her food. Lenny just wanted to sit in my lap and purr. Everyone looks happy and healthy.

Scientists should study Storm, she's an amazing fount of energy! Over the day, we took a long walk, threw the ball, and played a lot of tug of war, but I still feel like she had energy to spare. No wonder she keeps her girlish figure. Meanwhile, Max watches everything I do. Whenever I look up, he has his head cocked to the side and an eye fastened on me. He did say "Nighty Night" to me, twice, last night-- but not tonight, darn it. Everyone looks good.

It was so nice to see the gang today. Lily and I covered lots of ground on our walks--I love walking with her because she enjoys it so much. Lenny spent some time in my lap, and even Ruby loved up to me and had a few things to say! They all had good appetites, too. With any luck, tomorrow we'll have sunnier walking.

Bootsie at play

Bootsie seems to have completely figured out this petsitting thing! She is happy to see us, loves playing and being petted, but when we're busy with chores she amuses herself or just stretches out on the floor to watch us. Clearly a very well-adjusted cat! And extremely photogenic, as you probably know. She's doing great, impressing us both with her fierce hunting skills and her affectionate purring skills!

Bootsie heard me coming and was waiting at the door when I came in. We had a great time playing with the ladybug, interrupted by a few minutes of petting and purring here and there. She loved it when the ladybug went really fast, and when the ladybug dangled over the edge of the coffee table. I can't wait to see her tomorrow.

Pets: Lily, Ruby and Lenny

posted by Robin on 09/11/2009 at 8:30 p.m. Pacific

Today I finally got Ruby to play a little again, although she wasn't ripping and tearing the way she did last time. She alternated bopping the little mice and picking them up in her teeth with lots of rubbing and conversational meowing. Lenny got a little brushing and lots of pets, and Lily is enjoying her walks as always. It was cool enough this evening that Lily got a long walk, and then wanted to sit with Angie a while on the couch while she played with the cats.

Lenny up close

Very hot at mid-day today, so Lily and I took a short, slow walk, and I spent the extra time with Lenny and Ruby (who have been quite insistent that they want some attention!) Even having the camera out didn't scare them away. Lenny just kept walking toward it and looking into it, and Ruby just kept talking (I assume complaining about it!) Very cute. They are all fine, clearly ready to have their person back, but happy to have me in the meantime. Starting tomorrow Angie will be there for some of the visits, so they will have some variety, which is always good!

Pets: Lily, Ruby and Lenny

Everyone seems to have settled into a nice, calm routine - eating well and soaking up attention! Even Ruby decided to hang out all day in the living room instead of her special hiding place. They've been predicting rain but it got surprisingly hot today so I gave the outside plants a drink. The critters are not bothered by the heat, however! They are all doing very well.

Pets: Lily, Ruby and Lenny

posted by Robin on 09/08/2009 at 8:45 p.m. Pacific

Great to see the gang all together again! Lily is wiggly and happy as usual, and Lenny is front and center looking for food and affection. Ruby was very funny today - at both the morning and mid-day visits, I couldn't see her, called and called, finally found her both times curled up on a suitcase in the extra room, behind the screen - ! At first I thought she was scared or upset but both times when I went back she just purred and purred, rubbed against my hand and a nearby cardboard box, and carried on one of her unique conversations with me. Now I'm thinking that it is Lily that she likes to talk about, because she didn't utter a sound while Lily was away! Anyway, by evening she came out and sat with me on the floor for a while - didn't want to play but did want company. And Lenny got lots of petting - he was a little purr machine too!

lazy Romeo

Today was a lazy day - lots of stretching out on the couch for Romeo (for such a little guy, he takes up a lot of room!) He perked up for walks and occasionally to chase Django around the loft, then retired for a bit more snoozing. All in all I think he's had the perfect greyhound vacation (it's amazing how much the little ones are just like the big ones!) but I know he'll be happy to be home and to have his person back.

Pet: Romeo

posted by Robin on 09/06/2009 at 6:50 p.m. Pacific

Very blustery today - Romeo was slightly alarmed at first at the trees blowing around outside our windows! He and Django stayed upstairs where they didn't have to watch until the wind died down, helping each other be brave. They are so funny together - sometimes they play, sometimes they ignore each other, but they are completely comfortable with each other, and make an adorable pair!

Romeo with little puppy dog

Today Romeo learned that he can jump from the floor over the back of the couch, which he takes great delight in doing whenever he comes into the room. Sometimes he carries his little puppy dog with him! It was cool and rainy this morning, so he burrowed down under a blanket on the couch to where he could scarcely be seen. He knows how to get comfy!

Nice quiet day for Romeo - eat sleep walk, sleep walk, sleep walk, eat sleep walk...and every now and then throw the stuffed puppy dog in the air to show everyone who is boss! He's doing great, and we got some more dog food today so that is all set. (Django has to sample whatever Romeo is eating, so the kibble is going even faster than expected!) He met some new dogs and people in the neighborhood today - Django is jealous because he is usually the one people comment on, and now Romeo is getting all the attention from strangers! (It's good for him - keeps him humble.)

Romeo asleep

Romeo seems to be enjoying his holiday just fine! He and Django have settled in very easily together. They both mostly sleep all day, with breaks for walks every 3-4 hours, and a few minutes of excited playing whenever one of us comes home from somewhere. I brought over both of Romeo's little beds, which he likes sometimes, but he also enjoys catching some sunshine on Django's bed (see photo) - and of course the couch is always a comfortable option! He is a complete sweetheart and the perfect guest. He is so ferocious with his stuffed toy! He shakes it so hard that it goes flying across the room, up onto shelves, over the couch...very fierce!

Pets: Lenny and Ruby

The kitties remembered me fine, and were happy to greet me and then remind me that they are hungry! It's certainly quiet with Lily gone, but the cats don't seem to mind much. In fact, I think they like it! Lenny got some nice Furminator combing, which he loved, and Ruby batted a few balls around. Lenny mostly wanted to sit right beside me on the couch - he is such a snuggle kitty.
