Pets: Bailey and Chico

posted by Angie on 04/30/2010 at 8:15 p.m. Pacific

I swear, whenever I visit Bailey and Chico I think I need a beagle and a greyhound, too. They're such sweet little pooches. They were both extra hungry tonight and licked their bowls clean, but as soon as they finished they were clamoring for a walk. It was a gorgeous evening--clear with everything blooming, and apparently smelling very interesting, too. We met a little terrier named Pixie, and everyone said hi, then a lab named Ruby, so it was a sociable outing. Bailey and Chico were reluctant to go to bed, especially Bailey, but I promised them I'd be back bright and early for a long morning walk through Mt. Tabor.

Pets: Mollie and Chelsea

posted by Robin on 04/27/2010 at 4:25 p.m. Pacific

I do think Mollie knows you will be home soon - she came right into the kitchen today, quite interested in her lunch! She knows she's almost rid of me. So both girls chowed down for a while, though neither of them finished before I left. Chelsea upside downI was there earlier today so maybe they weren't hungry yet. Chelsea was in a VERY playful mood - I've never seen her play before! - and she also was quite talkative. (Does she always have that funny growly, scratchy kind of meow? I hope it's not a sore throat or anything.) She showed me how well she can bat mousies around, and also how she can crush them by rolling on top of them. Very impressive! There did appear to be a bit of soft stool in the litter box, so I assume that is from her and means that she is eating more of Mollie's food than she should. It was nothing alarming, but it's probably good that the food sheriff will be back in town to keep an eye on her. Safe travels home!

Pets: Mollie and Chelsea

posted by Robin on 04/26/2010 at 6:55 p.m. Pacific

Today I visited later in the afternoon, and Mollie did NOT come out to see me - so much for my theory of later visits being better! She stayed in the upstairs bedroom under the bed, so I took her food dish up there (I'm sorry if I'm creating a monster here, with Princess Mollie saying "Please bring my food to the upstairs room, minion!") Chelsea as usual was very interested in her sister's meal (after she had gobbled up her own) but I tried to keep her away as much as possible. The litter box is being used by two healthy kitties for sure, so that's a good indication that they are both getting adequate nutrition!

Pet: Miso

posted by Robin on 04/25/2010 at 6:10 p.m. Pacific

Miso Fierce was in great form today - she was especially engrossed in a game wherein she perched on one of the kitchen chairs and attacked the feather toy as it flew by through the slats on the back of the chair. She has some super powers of concentration! And very fast little paws. We also chased the spider toy, and looked out the window at the back yard - it was sunny and warm so I opened the window a bit, and she sniffed the fresh air and watched butterflies. A delightful visit, and she seems to be doing great!

Chelsea on the move

My new theory is that if I go later in the day Mollie is hungrier and more likely to show herself - or at least, for whatever reason, she did come out to the hallway again today to watch me fix kitty food. I left her to eat it while I went down to do the basement chores, but again she didn't eat much before sneaking back under the bed. I closed the door to the bedroom to give her a chance to eat without her sister's assistance, but I'm not sure that helped much, and Chelsea of course was right at the door when I opened it before I left, waiting to swoop in and finish whatever was left. The good news is that they both seem to be doing well, no matter how much they are eating of what - ! - and there is always a healthy amount of kibble eaten. Chelsea likes to follow me when I go upstairs to fill the water bowl and fountain, and today she was quite curious about my camera (which makes a pretty chime-like noise that some cats seem to really like).

Pets: Mollie and Chelsea

posted by Robin on 04/24/2010 at 6:10 p.m. Pacific

Mollie was not feeling quite so friendly today - she spied on me from the staircase while I fixed their food, then came down the hallway and allowed me to put the bowl in front of her, but after a bite or two she retreated to her safe spot under the bed. I put the bowl under the bed with her but she didn't really like that solution either! I managed to keep Chelsea distracted while I was there, and when I left I called out "Hungry!" several times as I closed the front door, so I hope Mollie realized I was gone in time to save her food from her ravenous sister. They both look just fine, and Chelsea did some purring before she realized that I wasn't going to give her Mollie's food. Maybe tomorrow Mollie will feel friendlier and/or hungrier!

Mollie under the table

posted by Robin on 04/23/2010 at 6:00 p.m. Pacific

To my surprise, both kitties came right out to greet me when I arrived today! Mollie made it pretty clear that I was not the one she was hoping to see, but at least she didn't run away and hide - in fact, she stayed out and ate up all of her food, so no danger of Chelsea stealing it from her. She even let me take her picture - unprecedented friendliness! Chelsea was her usual pretty self, following me around and showing me how well she rolls over. They're both doing great.

Tobey the chameleon

Pet: Tobey

posted by Robin on 04/13/2010 at 5:20 p.m. Pacific

Today I finally convinced Tobey to come outside - it rained earlier but was actually nice and warm by this afternoon. She went out and sniffed around for a bit, and seemed to enjoy the breeze. I realized when I looked at my pictures later that she is like a little chameleon, blending into the concrete of the patio! Very clever of her. She seems fine, and I'm sure she'll be happy to have her person back. Safe travels home!

Tobey's choice

From looking at the timers, it appeared that the last food dish opened about 12 hours before my visit today, so, needless to say, Tobey was extra happy to see me! She munched away while I did chores. Even after she had eaten most of her food, she was reluctant to stray too far from the food dishes, so I couldn't tempt her outside on this nice sunny day! Instead she wanted to hang out on the landing to be petted, so she could make occasional quick visits to the food dish to have a bite or two. Clearly she liked the company, but she was torn between my attention and the delicious food waiting in her dish!

Pet: Miso

Miso by open screen window

posted by Robin on 04/10/2010 at 5:40 p.m. Pacific

Today was a sunny, fairly warm day, so I opened the bedroom window a little bit to let Miso breathe some spring air. She was pretty happy about it! She followed me around while I did chores, and then we played with the feather toy for a while. The black spider toy had been moved out into the living room, so I guess she has been playing on her own too! She will be happy to have you home (and I didn't tell her that you had been seen in the company of a French bulldog.) Safe travels!

Miso attacks

Pet: Miso

posted by Robin on 04/08/2010 at 4:40 p.m. Pacific

It's always so funny to me to see how calmly Miso greets me - "Oh hi, you again." She is one cool cat. She always greets me with a little sniff of my hand, tiny head butt, then a fake-out nip that never makes contact (I guess that is our equivalent of a secret handshake.) Anyway, she was happy to show me her fancy new feather toy (SO perfect for her) and also enjoyed her new brand of food, until the composter started churning and then she came back out for more play in the living room. All is well!
