Pets: Lily, Lenny and Ruby

posted by Robin on 03/31/2010 at 6:00 p.m. Pacific

Finally some decent weather, so Lily and I had three very pleasant walks through the neighborhood, checking to see if all of the lovely spring flowers survived the deluge! (They did.) She seems extra affectionate today - she misses you! Sometimes she just goes straight to bed after her walks, but today she wanted to hang out. Lenny in the kitchenI was trying to get a good photograph of Lenny, which Lily thought was a very interesting project - we all three ended up on the kitchen floor, and they had a contest to see who could be the best model! Lily in the kitchenI can't decide who won. Ruby preferred to nap through all of the excitement, although she did have a long conversation with me at one point about how her day was going. She is the most talkative cat! They will all be SO happy to see you tomorrow night.

Ruby on tissue paper

Today it was slightly less rainy so Lily got some good walks in, including a mid-day visit to the park! She is taking her meds well and we are using the spray, although I've noticed that she still is biting/licking when we're not there. Ruby and Lenny were much livelier today (except at the mid-day visit, when they couldn't be bothered to wake up from their naps). Ruby was uninterested in breakfast and planted herself squarely on her tissue paper (see photo) - so of course I had to play the pounce-on-the-fuzzy-pencil-under-the-tissue game with her for a while before she would settle down to eat! And Lenny is back to wanting to help me write notes, although he did take quite a shine to my down vest, which I took off and laid on the couch - I wasn't sure I was going to be able to budge him from on top of it! Angie saw them tonight and reported that everyone is fine.

Lily alert

This morning it was raining so hard that even Lily wasn't too interested in going more than a few blocks on her walk! But by mid-day it had stopped raining (briefly) so we had a good long walk, and she got to do a lot of sniffing and looking around (see photo of her in alert mode). Lenny and Ruby are both doing the best possible thing on a day like this: sleeping. Angie reported that Lily took her meds with no problems this evening, as well as a spray of her healing potion, and the kitties woke up long enough to gobble down their dinners!

Pets: Bitty and Ben

posted by Angie on 03/22/2010 at 9:25 p.m. Pacific

Bitty and Ben both look good, although Ben is still somewhat suspicious of me. I fed Bitty and the fish and thoroughly scooped Bitty's box, then took Ben on a short walk so he could stretch his legs and leave his mark around the apartment complex. He still had his harness on from the morning (I assume) so I took that off. He's such a darling dog and has such good manners. I gave him a treat after our short walk. Bitty came right over for pets when I sat down on the couch for a minute with Ben. As you instructed, I didn't feed Ben, but he kept looking at me and looking at his dish as if to day, "Hey lady, aren't you forgetting something?" Tomorrow it's Robin's turn to fall in love with Ben and Bitty again.

Pets: Bitty and Ben

posted by Angie on 03/21/2010 at 10:25 p.m. Pacific

I didn't get too much of a chance to play with Bitty, but she looked happy and was ready to tuck into dinner. Ben was skeptical of me at first. He was friendly, but I could tell he wasn't sure I might just snatch him up and take him away (which, to tell the truth, I was tempted to do because he is so danged cute.) We went out for a quick walk, and he knew just where to go do his business, then he wanted to hustle back inside. I gave the fish her three pellets, and the gerbil had plenty of water. Everything looks great!

Pet: Tobey

posted by Robin on 03/20/2010 at 9:00 p.m. Pacific

During my visit, Tobey decided she'd rather take her beauty rest than sit in my lap, so I didn't see her. I could tell she was well, though, by her empty food dishes and her full litter box. When Tobey finished her nap (beautiful as ever!) she no doubt noticed her freshly replenished dishes and her tidied litter box. It was a gorgeous day, too--lots of sun spots for her to loll around in.

Pet: Tobey

posted by Robin on 03/19/2010 at 5:40 p.m. Pacific

Even though it is warmer today, Tobey still is not interested in the patio - ! It was pretty windy, so maybe that is why. Or maybe she just likes sitting on the couch, getting lots of petting and occasional treats! She is a funny little girl. She continues to enjoy her meals, and seems just fine in all regards. Tomorrow Angie will be visiting her, so it will be interesting to see if she comes out to say hello!

Pet: Tobey

posted by Robin on 03/18/2010 at 7:35 p.m. Pacific

Tobey is back in friendly phase, greeting me at the top of the stairs with head butts and lots of purring. She had gobbled up all four servings of food so I guess her appetite is back as well! It's a lovely sunny day but with kind of a chilly wind so we stayed inside and were lazy girls after the chores were finished. I left her counting down the hours until the next magical food dish opening!

Pets: Lily, Lenny, and Ruby

posted by Angie on 03/13/2010 at 8:50 p.m. Pacific

Today's weather, although chilly, was good for dog walking, so Lily and I saw a lot of the neighborhood and terrorized as many of its squirrels as we could. Lily is in such great spirits these days. She sniffed everything, wagged her tail at everyone, and even made friends with a terrier mix puppy named Harry. Lenny is still doing his best impersonation of a cross between Rudy Valentino and Dom Deluise. He's the Valentino loverboy and the Deluise gourmand. Meanwhile, Ruby has been loving the sheet of tissue paper you set out for her. She's torn a hole in it and likes to bat her paw at the hole. It's really cute!

Pets: Monkey and Noodle

posted by Angie on 03/13/2010 at 8:50 p.m. Pacific

While I was checking in on Monkey and Noodle today, I had a flash of them as a pair of robbers sent on a bank job. Monkey would hold up the bank while Noodle waited behind in the getaway car. The problem is that I could see Noodle getting nervous and driving the getaway car all around the parking lot, darting here and there, while Monkey tried to get in! See, those boys inspire a lot of imagination. They looked great today. They ate with vigor, and even finished up in time to let me pet them, one at a time, while I sat on the couch.

Pets: Laurel and Hardy

posted by Angie on 03/12/2010 at 9:50 p.m. Pacific

Once again, Hardy the Love Machine met me on the couch for some serious petting. He showed me his pleasingly plump, balded belly, then tried to do a few headstands on my lap. He made it easy to give him some good pets, because he obligingly rotated in my hands so that every square inch of his coat got some action. And I wish everyone were as sad to see me go! Laurel is still playing hard to get.

Pet: Blue

posted by Robin on 03/12/2010 at 9:50 p.m. Pacific

It makes Blue so mad when squirrels run along the power lines and then jump into trees - it's not fair!! We followed one today for a good two blocks, and he didn't touch the ground once. Luckily there were plenty of earth-bound squirrels for the boy to stalk, so that was much more satisfying for him. We managed to avoid getting rained on, and he had tons of energy so we covered a lot of ground. He had a big grin on his face when we got home, so I think he had fun! He cleverly tried to convince me that it was 5 o'clock and time for dinner, but I didn't fall for his wiles, although he was being dang cute. Hope you had a good trip!

Pets: Monkey and Noodle

posted by Angie on 03/12/2010 at 9:50 p.m. Pacific

It's always such a pleasure to see Monkey and Noodle again, because they crack me up so much! Someday you need to videotape them at dinner and post it on YouTube. I love watching Noodle's crazy darting back and forth and mad attempts to get out of the closet to steal Monkey's kibble. Meanwhile, Monkey is a cool eating machine, thoroughly and steadily plowing through his chow. They're crazy boys--I adore them.

Pets: Lily, Lenny, and Ruby

posted by Robin on 03/12/2010 at 9:50 p.m. Pacific

This morning Ruby decided she wanted to play - she sat by the tissue paper staring at me with those big eyes, would not eat, just stared - so I gave in and rattled the furry-topped pencil under the paper, and she had a blast! She kills me. Lenny is shedding a lot so he got some Furminating, which he loved, although he would prefer if I would stay several hours just to pay attention to him. Lily got some good walks in despite the cold, rainy weather. Angie reports all had good appetites this evening, and are settled in for the night!

Pets: Lily, Lenny, and Ruby

posted by Robin on 03/11/2010 at 8:35 p.m. Pacific

We're back to rain, but it has no effect on Lily's ability to sniff out interesting smells! She had some good (if damp) walks. Lenny continues to be expert at convincing me I need to sit down with him for 5 extra minutes, regardless of how tight my schedule is - ! Ruby was in sleepy mode today, although she did show up for meals. They were all happy to see Angie tonight!

Pets: Laurel and Hardy

posted by Angie on 03/11/2010 at 8:35 p.m. Pacific

It was nice to see Hardy again (and to know Laurel was hiding out somewhere nearby)! After I brought up the mail and scooped the box, Hardy was ready for some major petting. He must have known I was cold and wet from outdoors and needed a nice warm kitty in my lap. When it was time to go, I went to the dining room table to write you a note, and Hardy snuck up behind and spanked me with his paws! It was hilarious. That cat is a love machine.

Pets: Laurel and Hardy

posted by Robin on 03/10/2010 at 7:45 p.m. Pacific

Hardy met me at the door as usual, and could not get enough of purring and being petted! He finally let me do chores, and then accompanied me on an apartment-wide search for Laurel. We couldn't find him, but I think Hardy enjoyed the game! Then just as I was getting ready to leave, Laurel appeared in the hallway - I have NO idea where he had been hiding, but I'm sure he was laughing like crazy at me wherever he was. He showed off his signature move, leaning against the wall while he tries to stand on his head. They're both doing great!

Pet: Blue

posted by Robin on 03/10/2010 at 7:45 p.m. Pacific

Blue had a very innocent look on his face when I arrived, which makes me think he had been considering an assault on the pot of soup, but all was well and I arrived in time to save him from himself! We had a great walk through the sunny afternoon, with many squirrel-stalking episodes. One time he was so intent on a squirrel in a tree across the street that he didn't even blink at the two yappy dogs passing under the tree, who were going nuts trying to get at Blue. Clearly, he has his priorities. He enjoyed his dinner visit because it included (1) dinner and (2) more squirrel hunting, although he didn't have much luck - squirrels must have dinner hour too. I'll be back to see him on Friday!

Pets: Lily, Lenny, and Ruby

posted by Robin on 03/10/2010 at 7:45 p.m. Pacific

Lily and I had a lovely afternoon walk - it turned out sunny after hail and rain in the morning. Both kitties were awake for mid-day crunchies; Lenny sat in my lap for a few minutes, then Ruby and I played with the tissue paper while she told me about her day. All three had good appetites for dinner, and we had another nice Lily walk (before the rains come back in the morning, I think!) Ruby again had a lot to talk about - she's been so quiet lately when I've been around, I'd almost forgotten what a good conversationalist she is!

Pet: Tobey

posted by Robin on 03/09/2010 at 5:05 p.m. Pacific

Today Tobey came down to greet me like she usually does, with lots of pushing her head into my hand, purring and meowing. She had eaten almost all of the food that opened since yesterday, so I think she is feeling fine. Maybe she was just having a lazy day yesterday! We spent time in the living room after the chores were done, where I amused her by hiding treats or putting them in odd places, which she seemed to enjoy. All is well, and she'll be happy to have you home!

Pet: Tobey

posted by Robin on 03/08/2010 at 6:40 p.m. Pacific

I was a little worried because Tobey didn't come right down to greet me, and she had not eaten all of her food from the open dishes. I found her curled up under the covers, and it wasn't too hard to coax her out to get some treats! She was very friendly and purred like crazy, so I'm assuming she is okay - maybe just in hibernation mode since you are gone. And since she was happy to eat treats, she apparently has not completely lost her appetite! I'll see how much she eats tomorrow and let you know if I have any concerns, but I think she's doing fine.
